Plasticizer Test

Protheragen-ING understands that consumers are concerned about the presence of plasticizers such as phthalates in cosmetics.

We offer a plasticizer testing service designed to provide you with accurate information on whether harmful levels of plasticizers are present in cosmetic formulations, allowing you to make informed decisions about the cosmetics.

The Importance of Plasticizer Test in Cosmetics

Plasticizers are chemicals added to cosmetic products to enhance their flexibility, durability and texture. However, some plasticizers, such as certain phthalates, have raised concerns about their potential health effects.

Plasticizers will cause harm to the human reproductive system, immune system, and digestive system, such as damaging male reproductive capacity, promoting premature puberty in women, and possibly causing gender confusion in children. Long-term large intake can also cause liver cancer. Therefore, cosmetic products may need to detect plasticizers.

Reactive plasticizer Dibutyl maleate, dioctyl maleate, acrylic/methacrylic polyol ester, fumarate, itaconate, unsaturated polyester resin, etc.

Below are our plasticizer testing steps.

  1. We collect representative samples of cosmetic products for analysis. The physical form of the cosmetic product (e.g., liquid, cream, powder) is considered when determining appropriate sample preparation methods.
  2. We extract plasticizers from cosmetic samples and concentrate them for analysis. Extraction methods vary depending on the nature of the product and the specific plasticizers being targeted.
  3. Once the plasticizer is extracted, it is analyzed instrumentally to detect and quantify its presence.
  4. Before analyzing cosmetic samples, we establish a calibration curve using known plasticizer standards and then quantify the plasticizer detected in the sample.
  5. We analyze the data obtained from instrumental analysis using appropriate software to determine the presence and concentration of plasticizers in cosmetic samples.
  6. Our report results indicate the amount of plasticizer detected and any associated findings.
