Viscosity Test

What Is Viscosity?

Viscosity refers to the stickiness of a liquid. It is a property that describes the interactions between molecules within a substance, measuring how resistant a substance is to flow. Specifically, substances with high viscosity exhibit greater resistance and flow slowly, while those with low viscosity have less resistance and flow more quickly.

Viscosity is often influenced by temperature, as it can affect the speed and interactions of molecules. In liquids, higher temperatures generally result in lower viscosity, making the liquid flow more easily. Factors such as water content and excipients in drugs can also affect the viscosity of pharmaceutical products.

Why Measure Viscosity?

Viscosity is a critical physical property that affects the flow, stability, absorption, and release of liquid medications. Viscosity testing provides valuable insights in various stages of pharmaceutical development.

Measuring the viscosity of a drug solution or suspension reflects the molecular structure and interactions of the drug. This aids in drug design and formulation optimization, enhancing the quality and efficacy of medications.

Viscosity serves as an indicator of drug stability and purity, providing essential data for quality control and the safety assessment of pharmaceuticals.

Viscosity Test

Service Process

Initial Consultation & Project Planning

The process begins with an initial consultation where we engage with clients to understand their specific needs as well as some basic information about the sample, its nature, and any particular conditions relevant to the analysis.

Then our team of experts works on developing a detailed project plan depending on its physical form (liquid, cream, oil, etc.), which includes the components like testing method, condition, and timeline. It is provided to the client, ensuring project transparency and alignment with their specific requirements.

Analysis

Viscosity testing is conducted using specialized equipment, viscometers and rheometers. These instruments apply shear stress to the sample and measure the resulting deformation or flow rate. Compared with viscometers, rheometers can measure non-Newtonian fluids.

Data Analysis and Reporting

We generate a comprehensive analysis report that includes the viscosity measurement data, details of the testing conditions, operations for preparing solutions (for some solid drugs, like sterile powder for Injection, that needs to be dissolved and used according to the instructions), and any additional information requested by the client.

Follow-up Support & Consultation

We maintain open communication with our clients and address any questions, concerns, or the need for further guidance regarding the testing process and the results obtained.

Protheragen-ING offers precise viscosity testing services to support pharmaceutical research and development. For more information or to inquire about our viscosity testing services, please contact us and we will respond promptly within 2-4 working days.
